Coming Up - Channel 4

COMING UP is the only talent scheme currently in the UK where new film-makers have the opportunity to make an authored drama with a guaranteed network broadcast. Now in its sixth year, IWC and Channel4 continue their commitment to innovation, experimentation and new voices, and for the second year we will be in partnership with Skillset, adding valuable training elements to the production.

This autumn we want to make 8 challenging and individual films from the best new talent in the UK. We’ll be looking for bold ideas, strong voices, originality, ambition and wit. Each film will be for a ½ hour C4 slot and must:

· Push boundaries in a way that wouldn’t / couldn’t be done in mainstream drama
· Be contemporary
· Be shot in 4 days on a limited budget
· Be largely, but not exclusively, young and urban

This is not an entry level scheme – but for writers and directors building a track record and a career in film and television drama. Submissions from multi-cultural and regionally-based filmmakers are encouraged. Successful applicants will receive a fee of around £3,000.

THE SCHEME IS ONLY OPEN TO WRITERS AND DIRECTORS WITHOUT A PRIMETIME TV DRAMA CREDIT.

THE CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATIONS TUESDAY 18th APRIL 2006.

If you have any general queries please refer to the IWC, RDF or Channel 4 websites and links: www.iwcmedia.co.uk, www.rdfmedia.com/jobs/coming_up.asp

2006 BRIGHTON FESTIVAL – CALL FOR FILMS

This is a first call for submissions to the Final Cut short film screening events in this year’s Brighton Festival, taking place from May 6th – 28th inclusive.

Final Cut is one of the UK’s most successful independent short film exhibitors and will be organising the festival's main film event which includes a special ‘first-film’ section for the first time. During the festival month, they expect to showcase over 70 new shorts from local, UK and international film-makers and introduce audiences to innovative image-based performances such as ‘Netjacking’, ‘ReelSpeak’ and ‘Oddfellows Casino’. They are also organising several additional film-related events, including a ‘speed-pitching for documentaries’ day (more about that later).

All screenings include their innovative ‘Trailer Trash’ section of teasers for new and soon-to-be-completed shorts, plus film-inspired VJ sets from top Brighton video artists.

If you are interested in submitting a film and/or trailer, please visit their website at www.finalcut.gb.com for advance details of the screening programme and a downloadable submission form.

The deadline for receipt of films is Friday, April 21st.

Today, 21st Century 3D announced the introduction of the 3DVX3

Foregoing tape, a unique direct to disk recording system captures RAW CCD data in 4:4:4 RGB color space at 10 bits per channel, producing remarkably vivid 3D images at up to 1280x720 per eye, 24fps progressive. This unique capture method provides industry leading dynamic range and color fidelity, more akin to motion picture film than digital video. The genlock synchronized system features two entirely discreet image channels simultaneously captured by 6 CCDs, two on board CPUs running Mac OS X with over 2.8ghz of processing power, 2gb of RAM, 8gb of flash memory and a maximum record time of one hour per eye on paired sets of 100gb removable 7200 RPM drives.
